Male objectification in gaming does exist, and guys complain about it all the time. Look at all the complaints over androgynous guys in JRPGs. The only difference is that it isn’t called “male objectification”, and that there is a clear and massive movement to keep it out of games.
I always wonder why people don’t mention characters like Vaan in these discussions. That’s something guys understand. Guys like Duke Nukem aren’t manipulative one-dimensional caricatures, they’re power fantasies. That’s why people like them. Whenever guy versions of sex-props come up, though (like Edward from Twilight), everyone is quick to bitch.(via microrapter)
